尼羅河全長超過六千公里，流經埃及、蘇丹、衣索比亞...等非洲國家，河的週遭具有豐富的生物多樣性，肥沃的水域讓附近的植被得以繁衍，帶來蓬勃的農業發展。在河流的哺育下，北非漸漸成為世界早期的文明中心，埃及人常說：若沒有尼羅河，就沒有埃及的古文明。

現今，尼羅河面臨的主要威脅為工業汙染，而受全球暖化影響，蒸發的河水加速了這個污染過程，不僅危及依賴其水域生存的人類，也破壞了原有的自然生態。
